Get Your "Move On"
6 Tips to Get Your "Move On"
Registration is open for the 2016 Harvest Hustle 5K Walk/Run and Wellness Expo. It is scheduled for October 23, 2016 at the Joe B. Barnes Regional Park in Midwest City. You don’t have to be an athlete to join in the fun. This FREE non-competitive 5K event is for everyone!
With 6 weeks to go until the event, participating in the Harvest Hustle 5K Walk/Run event is a great way to jump start getting moving. To help you get started, the ONIE Project has designed a training plan for walkers and runners. The plan is flexible to fit your training needs.
Set a goal.
Let crossing the finish line at the Harvest Hustle 5K be your goal. Everyone who completes the 5K either by walking or running will receive a medal. By using this event as motivation, you are training with purpose.
Make a plan.
The long-term objective is to be able to complete the 3.1 course. To reach this goal, set smaller goals of how far (distance) or how long (time) you would like to train each day.
Take one step at a time.
Avoid doing too much too soon. Gradually build up to longer walks or walk and jog sessions. Remember, you have already won just by moving. You are ahead of everyone who is home sitting on the couch.
Enlist the support of a friend or a family member.
Those who have social support are more likely to be successful in meeting goals, and it is just more fun to have a buddy.
Prepare on the course.
Take your training to the course. Begin by walking or jogging sections of the course until you can do the entire course. We have attached the course map for your use.
Focus on having fun and relaxing. Having fun is good for health too!
