Let's Celebrate Hispanic Heritage!
September 15th kicked off National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this period, we celebrate the culture, traditions, and contribution of Hispanic Americans who trace their roots back to Mexico, Spain, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. The month-long celebration coincides with the anniversary of the independence of several Latin American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.
Hispanic Americans are a diverse group. They enrich our nation and society with their vibrant culture, family-centered values, and hard work. Latinos are successful in many different professions, and have made important contributions to law, music, education, science, entertainment, business, sports, and medicine. They are our nation’s largest and fastest growing minority group. According to the Census Bureau, there are more than 50 million Latinos in the nation.
Join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage month with this healthy Latin inspired recipe: Fiesta Casserole! It has everyone’s favorites - tomatoes, black beans, and cheese. In addition, black beans are protein-rich. Add grapes to make this a complete MyPlate meal! Que rico!
